New Vivarium

Ive had my 55g viv set up for almost a year now and have been sad ever since for my two fire-bellied toads. I had to refill their water dish all the time to give them a way to keep moist. So yesterday after running around for hours on my job search, I ripped the whole cage apart and started over. The toads are much happier now as you can see.

Since prohibition in the 1920/30′s, selling beer with over 6% alcohol has been illegal in Alabama. Today the bill was passed by the senate to make it legal again. It still need to be signed by Gov. Reilly to go into effect. So everyone raise your mugs and cheers to heavier beers, and a change in a positive direction for Alabama!

New Geckos on the Way

I took out my two Hemidactylus turcicus’ (Mediteranean Geckos) out today to try and figure out their sexes. I found that my larger one, Luna is actually a male, and the smaller one is a pregnant female. When she lays them it should take about 50-70 days for them to hatch.

Eenor’s First 5 Months

I wanted to share my Tokay Gecko, Eenor. He is named after Les Claypool’s Fearless Flying Frog Brigade’s guitarist. He is now five months old and has over doubled in size since i got him, and over the next few years will double again. I’m not sure exactly how old he was when i got him, but, at barely 3″, I estimate under a month. He enjoys his large cage where he sleeps hiding near the top during the day and explores and hunts crickets at night. He has a strange personality. With barking and biting most of the time, and calm and docile on a rare occasion. Only recently has he given me the opportunity to hold him. Normally, even sticking my hand in the cage will cause him try to avoid being seen. Click here for the pictures!

Snow Rollers!

Based on estimations from Tim as well as the blades of grass in the picture, most of the snow rollers were about 18" in height, while the largest rollers were about 2 feet tall.

These Snow Rollers amazed me! I’ve never seen anything like it. They look like strips of carpet being rolled up!

Birmingham will get 21 Dunkin Donuts

Dunkin Donuts has announced that it will open 21 locations in the Birmingham area in the next 5 years. They finally opened the first Alabama location in Dothan in February. Hopefull soon they will bring one to Tuscaloosa. Until then I will be picking up several dozen white-iced-filled-powdered-sugar donuts everytime I go home.
